10 Best Things to Do in North Charleston with Kids
North Charleston might not be the first place families think of when visiting Charleston, but those in the know understand it's one of the most kid-friendly cities in the Lowcountry. From a real Civil War submarine to a massive water park and hands-on fire museum, here are the best things to do with kids.
1. Whirlin' Waters Adventure Waterpark
Within Wannamaker County Park, Whirlin' Waters features a massive wave pool, lazy river, multiple water slides, and a dedicated kids' splash zone. Open seasonally (May–September), it's the best way to beat Lowcountry heat. $15–20 per person.
2. H.L. Hunley Submarine Tour
The Warren Lasch Conservation Center offers a genuinely unforgettable experience — seeing the world's first successful combat submarine up close. Exibits include facial reconstructions of the crew. Saturday tours only, advance tickets required. Best for kids 8+.
3. North Charleston Fire Museum
Houses an impressive collection of vintage fire trucks dating to the 1780s, interactive exhibits, and a 9/11 memorial. $6 adults, free for children under 12.
4. Riverfront Park
