The Best Parks and Outdoor Spaces in North Charleston, SC
The Lowcountry's natural beauty is on full display in North Charleston, where marsh-front parks, ancient oak canopies, and riverside trails offer endless outdoor opportunities.
Riverfront Park
The crown jewel of North Charleston's park system. Built on the former Charleston Naval Base, this 10-acre waterfront park features a stunning boardwalk along the Cooper River, an iconic red pedestrian bridge, a fishing pier, and the Greater Charleston Naval Base Memorial. Views across the river to the Charleston peninsula are breathtaking at sunset. Free and open daily.
Wannamaker County Park
This 1,015-acre county park feels worlds away despite being minutes from major roads. Miles of paved and unpaved trails wind through pine forests, cypress wetlands, and open meadows. Features a massive playground including a water play area in summer, picnic shelters, a dog park, and bike rentals. Entry is $2 per person. The Whirlin' Waters Adventure Waterpark within the park is open seasonally.
Park Circle
The neighborhood's namesake green space features a disc golf course, playground, community garden, and shaded benches under ancient live oaks. The Felix C. Davis Community Center anchors the northern edge with fitness classes and event space. The North Charleston Farmers Market sets up here seasonally.
Noisette Creek Preserve
A 100-acre tidal creek and marsh preserve accessible from the old Navy Base. Trails through maritime forest and boardwalks over the marsh make it fantastic for birdwatching — egrets, herons, and osprey are common. Classic Lowcountry ecosystem. Bring bug spray in warm months.
